Notebook Requirements

For Mrs. Bradley’s English Classes

Your notebook has two purposes:

  1. It will record the day’s objectives, assignments and notes. If there is anything written on the board when you enter class, it is your responsibility to write it on the loose leaf paper in your notebook. The idea is to give you something to refer to if you forget what you need to do for class. You should also record any lecture notes here too. If you are absent, borrow the notes of a responsible class mate.
  2. Your notebook will serve as a storage area for all of the handouts I give you throughout the year (and I give a lot of handouts!). You will also keep all of your graded work here too. Remember, if there is a discrepancy in your grade at the end of the quarter/semester, you have to prove to me that the grade should be changed.

Notebook format for Mrs. Bradley:

  1. All notebooks will be collected before the end of the semester and graded as a test grade (if you keep this notebook organized, you will receive an easy 100 points!).
  2. Only 3 ring binder notebooks are practical because they allow adding material such as handouts and returned quizzes. The bigger (2" rings) are the best!
  3. To receive a grade, a notebook must have all of the following material as specified before collection date).
  4. Your notebook should be divided into the following categories in the order below by using divider tabs:

  1. All materials must be unfolded and attached to the notebook with the 3 rings (I have a 3-hole punch if you’d like to borrow it).
  2. No loose collection of papers, file folders or other make-shift notebooks will be accepted. No materials are to be stored in the text book.

The following scale will be used in evaluating notebooks:

  1. 93-100 points: complete materials in order, dated, labeled as indicated above; frequent evidence of underlining/highlighting used to study for test, quizzes; legible, neat.
  2. 85-92 points: same as #1 above; some evidence of underlining/highlighting; legible, neat.
  3. 77-84 points: same as #1 above, complete but out of order; no or little evidence of underlining/highlighting; mostly legible, neat.
  4. 68-76 points: somewhat incomplete notes and/or homework, tests, quizzes; no evidence of underlining/highlighting; partially legible.
  5. 59-67 points: very incomplete or unsatisfactory notes with no evidence of attempt to order them; no underlining/highlighting; no evidence of care in note taking (sloppy, illegible, scrap paper or doodling).
  6. 58-1 points: very few papers in folder, no order of papers, etc.
  7. 0 points: no notebook turned in.
